- Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM)

A delayed worsening of symptoms after physical or mental activity. Common among people with Long COVID or CFS. Can include fatigue, cognitive problems, and physical pain.

- A condition that significantly affects your daily life but may not be visible to others. Examples include fibromyalgia, depression, and chronic fatigue. These are often misunderstood in the context of LTD claims.
- Functional Impairment
- The way your illness impacts your ability to work or carry out daily activities. Long-term disability benefits are based on functional limitations, not just a diagnosis.
- Long COVID
- A post-viral syndrome involving ongoing symptoms that last weeks or months after initial COVID-19 infection. Common symptoms include fatigue, brain fog, and PEM.
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME)
- A long-term illness that causes extreme fatigue and other disabling symptoms. Often overlaps with Long COVID. Common in LTD claims for invisible illnesses.
